The ruling on the field is that the First Amendment does not protect the actions of private citizens. Since it's a private university, and they aren't faculty, the tearing of posters amounts to vandalism or a breach of the university code, rather than a violation of first amendment rights. Censoring opinions you personally disagree with is still pathetic behavior.
