Tried red for a bit tonight, didn't die, only saw one other person, ooc chat was complete garbage that I'd have to minimize permanently if I wanted to play there.

Maybe I'm missing something? Or the people on Red are getting bored of killing/getting killed by the same people so they're trying to recruit more?
Join a crew, make friends, level up. You will see what you are missing.

I genuinely feel bad for people who raid on blue when the raid server is an option

I played blue recently till 21 and then stopped.

Problems:
1. Most people are quite twinked. They prefer you to be geared especially if a tank.
2. There's a bunch of plvl'ing going on, which is not only disheartening but it clears entire xp zones.
3. Many xp places I went were camped. I saw a twinked warrior holding down spots solo in uguk.
4. WTB prices are too expensive even though I had accumulated 1k pp.

Endgame problems I heard of:
1. Every spot with high-value loot is perma-camped, with a waiting list.
2. Several guilds rotate boss mobs. So you have to wait 3(5?) x 5(7+) days for a particular boss.
3. Boss mobs die within minutes of spawning to zerg raids.

So I rolled red this weekend.
1. Blue had 1,700 people; red under 170.
2. The xp comes so fast you have even bigger problems purchasing your spells. This should be solved once I hit the lfay sisters camp. I've heard its perma-solved once you level high enough to farm giants or seafuries.
3. Its not easy to get a port or a bind.
4. /ooc is server wide, and used for auctions. Someone has to port to trade, there is no EC tunnel. Funny enough this made my experience closer to that of the first months of EQ.
5. I may end up having to roll a druid to trade or port a cleric for a rez.

I've heard there isn't much ganking at low-med levels. I assume its done by bored high levels.

A static group is a great asset on red, as the /ooc suggests it takes a while to form a group. I wouldn't be surprised if a good sixed static group could hit 60 within 1.5 months. That would not be possible on blue without plvl'ing.

I prefer red.
Borrowed from the starter zone, and I'd add to this.

Last night I was in a CoM group, we went up to the 2nd and 3rd floor. The group was so good that nobody wanted to leave - SK/monk/bard/cleric (me)/druid/rogue. Ended up staying there over 3 hours.

Sure that can happen on blue as well, but the way people talk about red... it's like that experience can never happen on red. Surely I was meant to be killed repeatedly, bind camped and laughed at til I logged out? That's the way blue players seem to paint it.

We were 3-4 different guilds, we got along for the sake of XP.

Why didn't they kill me? Well... aren't we all trying to get somewhere? (60)

So if you're bored one day, can't get a group in MM/Unrest/CoM/KC/Seb/etc... why not open a 2nd window while LFG and give it a go? Nothing to lose.

Taking a full group to 2nd or 3rd is asinine.

By the time u can handle those mobs, it's solo or duo material. Taking a full group up there wouldn't be very good exp conpared. Then again there's the full bonus on red.

My red cleric has about 60 less wisdom than my blue cleric.

My blue SK has full planar gear and an atra shield/ebon mace - the tank had a fungi but not much else for gear.

The bard had no lambent or singing steel gear.

...and that trend runs through the party, and on red leveling characters generally. Items are much more scarce on red.

That makes red a more authentic "first character" leveling experience for most people. Enjoy your comfy tunnel and twinked level 1s. I find red is quite refreshing in that sense...most people leveling aren't heavily twinked.

Go ahead and take your duo up there so I can kill both of you.

Strategy is different on red, and you have to learn to play vastly differently.
