I missed the server by 30 minutes!!! I was looking forward to playing this all week, and I get home 30 minutes too late.

Secrets you gotta bring it back up.

The problem was that EVERYONE was giving completely mutually exclusive suggestions as to how the server should be and thinking as if their ideas were obviously correct. People came to the server knowing it was permadeath so at least that's something everyone's okay with. Honestly in the fucking alpha stages of a project, you should really restrict your bitching to bug reports, not stupid suggestions.

I'm not thrilled about secrets taking down the server but I don't blame him.

Well he did encourage people for feedback when he asked things in ooc and people started discussing how they wanted it (Not a bad thing imo), here he could just be the judge and take whatever he likes and implement it.

Sure there are people who will rant in different directions, but if you don't like what they're saying simply ignore them. Of course not everyone will be happy in the end but you need to expect and be able to handle that.

Honestly the server was full of people who wanted regular pvp and not discord (permadeath) pvp, so their suggestions were worthless anyway. There was definitely way too much bitching, especially after secrets would clearly say "no, this is how it's going to be", that just wasn't enough for some people. It was actually stressful just playing it and having to read people constantly ooc-ing their dissatisfaction with a server that they curiously still played on.

Some people were giving honest, constructive suggestions, but far too many people were just whining and it was really making it difficult to enjoy the game without turning off ooc.

For example (on exp loss after death):

"it should be 25% of your exp bar"
"it should be 50% of all of your levels"
"it should be 5 levels"
"..."
etc.

These kinds of suggestions are all mutually exclusive and if Secrets were to pick one, he would piss off everyone who suggested something different. So rationally the only way to accommodate people was with the system he had based the server on from the beginning since that was what attracted players to it in the first place. That people couldn't realize something so unfathomably obvious and acted like fucking retards constantly blathering about why their vision for the server was so brilliant, was enough to almost make my head explode.

I really hope he brings it back, and maybe encourages people to donate (many would) to ease hosting costs and such.

I enjoyed it. But one thing that was kind of 50/50 for me was the fact that no mobs aggro you.

Now, I can see the advantage of this. I had a level 1 gnome exploring Permafrost last night. Also I know the focus is on player vs. player and not player vs environment.

But also, I dunno it just kinda felt odd and there was no sense of danger other than the big burly trolls trying to gank me while I recovered some lost levels.

It has great potential though. I'm not a PvPer but I had fun!

More likely to die to PvE than PvP far as I could tell. The mobs melee dmg output is insane, so only casters can really survive on lvling up. =p
Only time I ran into any proper PvP there was when some assling snared me and sat around probably memorizing spells or something, at which point I blinded him and he scooted to zoneline. Anticlimatic!

And scavenged some long dead vah shirs golds and rations and water flasks.
