Been casually following those forums but I come away with two distinct feelings every time I browse:

1. they have no idea what "classic" means or why people enjoy it

2. they are a group of whining in-your-face twits

I'm still waiting to see if they are going to nerf anything to where it should be. If it's like the original progression servers I think I will run SK/shaman/monk 3 box. Might toss in druid instead of the monk for ports/ds extra heals. I know it sounds dirty that I will box, but I am guessing over 50% of the people that are going to play will be boxing.

Also considering throwing in a bard in there instead if /melody works. Will add some CC, easy afk box and will allow shaman to get more mana/regen faster.

Even with /melody, you'd be better off with a chanter.

Bard mez only lasts 3 ticks, meaning you have to switch targets and reapply mez constantly. I can lock down 4 mobs at a time if no resists, but during that time, i'm not doing anything else. No melee, no haste, no slow or mana regen.

Chanters retain their effectiveness while CCing. While they mez, everyone in the group is still hasted, with clarity and the charmed pet is doing massive dps.

Sure bard songs are really good for groups, especially PoP and beyond, but when it comes to pure CC, nothing beats a chanter.

I can't imagine how hard maintaining charm will be on chanter with a 3 box. Might just stick with the monk or bard. Monk would guarantee single pulls greater than the SK, won't need alot of gear. Bard would be nice for travel though. Hard choices.

Mages make an excellent box. A quick assist tank macro with pet attack on pull allows you to go back to your tank quickly to position the mob. Then you can go back to the mage and fire up a nuke. Really straightforward.

CotH is great for getting where you need to go. All you need to do is run the mage near the next zoneline and summon the rest.

I'm definitely going to play a bard. Plan to box a chanter/mage too. I'm gonna play with friends i've met on p99, don't know what they will play but we'll make it work.
