It was really just a bonehead call. If you have an average running back, I can see making that call. However, they have the best RB in the league right now, and he had just gotten 5 hard fought yards. If anything they should have run a bootleg and let Wilson use his legs if he had to. Much less risky.
There is also the possibility that the receiver he chose was not one of the intended first or second reads. The play could have been drawn up to be a corner fade, or a quick out and Wilson just chose to react to what looked like an open receiver.

Well thats what I'm saying... maybe poor decision by Wilson. From the coordinators point of view he was thinking I have time for 2 runs and 1 throw. Throw play has to be 1st or 2nd to stop the clock, while the timeout stops the clock for the other play.
Decided to throw first. Not a terrible decision, defense would be more likely to expect a pass if they did it the next down.
