^but really... naw, rangers with pets is a dumbass idea. Especially beastlrod pets. Rangers with SK pets would still be a stretch. Beastlord pets were too good for their shaman/monk hybrid asses in the first place... like you traded FD and Mend and Flying Kick for SoW, Pet, buffs, healing.... way too OP imo

if anything they'd just allow beastlord before they'd make rangers have beastlrod pets.... if that were remotely classic they'd have done that not made beastlord a class lol

I think it would be neat to have a wolf familiar much like wizards got imp/dragon familiars in Luclin, but instead of extra mana, resists, and mana regen, it offered bonus melee stats.

A hunting dog, if you will. It wouldn't overbalance the aspect of the game and it would provide what I feel is a little more reasonable expectation of a ranger "being one with nature." Rangers already get positive factions with many times of animals, so why not give them a friend for life?

In Velious, Rangers get way more options in terms of straight AC, but no real extra ability to evade. Maybe the familiar offers a few points of AC, str, agi, dex as a way to continue with this line of thinking. Alternatively, you offer a little extra tank ability by upping the evade stats.

All ranger need is their defense cap in line with other hybrids and they'd be a great class. They could group tank very well. Rangers problems 100% stem from skill caps. If they were brought into line the class would be loved by all. No clue why Sony/EQ ever did them how they did. I wouldn't oppose them being given proper knight hybrid stats to see them be a viable class option sicne we will never pass velious, I believe it is a patch that would have come in the timeline had we stayed in same era.... I also to that effect wouldn't mind seeing the additional playable race/class combos extend into some of the luclin era combos to keep things fresh as well, as it has no negative effect on gameplay mechanics form classic and would also have been incorporated regardless of expansions.

I think you can easily look at future patches and expansions and see the classic mechanic progression of things and evolution as intended, regardless of expansion content.

You've completely failed to understand what "classic" means. Those "future patches and expansions" are not the "classic mechanic progression", they are "the way SOE took things after Velious," which is in fact the opposite of classic. The people who made this server felt so strongly against the way SOE took things that they gave up months if not years of their lives to re-create a server without those, very un-classic, changes.

Someone to curl up to on the dark lonely nights. Something to slake this thirst for another living being. Lord, how long must I be alone, a ranger.

If anything had to be done, improving their bow dps makes much more sense than adding a pet (?).

Maybe they could shoot pets from their bow. Like falcons or something.
