@Gwence: Star citizen really is a totally different game. ED is more like an open world simulation with game play element (similar to EQ in that regard) whereas SC will lead you to a campaign holding your hand (think WoW). Both can be great on their own, just a matter of preference. Since WoW got many more players than EQ, the SC model probably will attract more customers.

^^ incorrect on Star Citizen. It will be just like ED. There will be a stand alone campaign called Squadron 42 , but the persistant world will be just like ED, once you are in game, go and do what you want. SC will also have some FPS and planet/starbase settings that you can actually walk around in. SC has a much bigger scope of what they are trying to deliver. So just like ED, I'm expecting somethings to not make it in the game on launch. Mission creep just tends to happen.

For me, yes. I enjoy it very much. But i am sure it's not for everyone.
Yesterday i got my brand new Asp Explorer. A bit foolish actually since i don't have enough credits yet to upgrade it... but i will earn that while i use it, part of the fun. I will keep that baby for a long time, like it very much so far.

I've clocked around 250 hours now. Love it. But it isn't a game for everyone. Even if I got bored right now, and stopped playing, I still got 250 hours out of a $60 game. That is better than the vast majority of AAA games. That's Terraria level time consumption.
The asp is a great ship! I finally upgraded my Type 7 Hauler to a Python today. I am now making money to load it up with weapons, a fuel scoop, and then I am going to travel about 1000 LY away from Sol and explore. Can't wait. The game doesn't have insane depth. This is not a RPG, nor is it an open world game. If you don't enjoy piloting, you wont enjoy the game really. This is a game for the type of person that likes to sit at AFK camps for 20 hours, or farm Peacebloom in WoW all day, not for profit, but just for fun. This is a game for the type of person that would play Euro Truck Simulator and enjoy it. If you want a good game to sit back, chill, and travel through and explore space, this is your game.

I have an asp with a few upgrades and 7 million credits and am still enjoying it. If you trade (which is the only way to make lots of money) it's very much a passive game. If you do it in Solo mode you can just listen to some music and chill out while escaping the occasional NPC interdiction.
The problem is the game needs more. It's mostly a first person space trading simulator right now with the option to bounty hunt or pirate when you feel like it. A lot of the fun is in finding good trade routes. There's no big wars, no faction rivalries, no plot or story (plenty of small ones though), no major galactic discoveries yet (there will be hostile aliens at some point though), no planetary landings or walking around on stations, no reason to ever fly an Orca (a passenger ship), etc. I only play an hour or two every day or every other day. It's all the time I have to play anything until the weekend.

There's been a lot of player pirate activity in the Lave system the past few days. Lots of traders getting killed and lots of bounty hunters heading there to try to collect the massive bounties.
