The baseball playoff parity is even more impressive when you consider it has the least % of teams making the playoffs:

NFL: 12/32 = 37.5%
NBA: 16/30 = 53%
MLB: 8/30 (until this year) = 26% and 10/30 this year and going forward = 33%

How many titles did they win while he was captain? How deep will they go in the playoffs this year? LOL
lol?

Jeter is noted for his postseason performances, and has earned the titles of "Captain Clutch", and "Mr. November" due to his postseason heroics. He has a career .309 postseason batting average, and a .351 batting average in the World Series. Except for 2008, 2013 and 2014, the Yankees have been to the postseason every year since Jeter joined the team and he earned a 5th ring with the yankees by winning the world series in 2009.

The answer we were looking for is one. One title in his decade+ of captaincy with the highest payroll in the league.
he won 5 championships with the team. not sure what the honorary title of captain has to do with anything

Baseball playoffs are weird. There is a huge percentage of wild card teams and lower seeds winning it compared to other sports. If you have two aces you can limp in and win it pretty easy.

The most telling stat I read regarding the Yankees while Jeter was on the team (20 years) was that in his entire career he only played ONE game where his team was mathematically eliminated from playoff contention. You can knock the championships but getting to the playoffs consistently is more difficult than sneaking in and winning it all once imo (ask the Marlins).

Jeter was way overrated defensively, but his offensive WAR was still the best of all time for a SS, and I believe top 10-20 all time. He was at like a +80 offensive and -9 defense spread out over 20 years, which is basically league average when you average it out. Not sure I'd knock a guy too much for playing league average defense at the most difficult defensive position while putting up the best offensive numbers over time at that same position. Plus the dude had the most years of any player in the history of baseball with a .300+ avg and double digit HRs and steals which shows his versatility. His career OBP is #1 all time for players with anywhere near his total starts at SS. He also had nearly an .850 OPS in the playoffs, with more hits than any other player. If you look at his playoff numbers its like almost 160 games (a full season) and he put up a season MVP type stat line playing against the best teams and pitchers in the highest pressure situations. They don't call him captain cool for nothin'.

He is a top 5 SS of all time, and you can make a strong case for anywhere in the top 3.

By the way the L.A dodgers have the highest payroll in the league - Yankees are # 2.
