NFP was Saryrn's tunnel. It had plusses and minuses really. You were farther from ports but closer to a bank. Remember that back in the day most people kept all their pp in the bank of their main, not on a mule sitting somewhere. Also, far fewer people would grind NFP faction up/tag lucan, far fewer people would use invis items like larrikan mask or whatever, far fewer people knew about banking through walls, etc.

NFP is where P99's tunnel should be.
totally Saryrn was the best

NFP on Mithaniel Marr, it was awesome. Banking / market should be in a city IMO. Behind the jade tiger was a big hangout and sewers for evils. Also people constantly dueling / fight club in sewers.

EQ tends to lack many of the real world things that influence where markets start. But EC was a natural crossroads, where markets would usually arise in ancient times. You had people from FP, Neriak, places west, Ro and beyond, plus proximity to not just one bank.

On most servers, race is meaningless to PCs, so it doesn't make much sense to exclude a large part of your customers by selling in a city. Markets tend to be very neutral places by nature.

I think I only ever went to NFP twice on Live, and once was an accent with my SK... and I died. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

EC tunnel is a pretty stupid place to trade, honestly. Someone in this thread mentioned that it's "two zones away from a good bank and an evil bank and one zone away from ports" and all that is true, except have you ever made the trip from EC tunnel to NFP or Neriak on an overencumbered character? It is so fucking far. Gfay made even less sense, so I'm not saying we were doing it right, just that EC is pretty bad.

I think Toxx would be a better place to trade. It's smaller so it's easier to run across to get to good/evil cities, and the ports are completely right there.

Ive banked multiple times in NFP running from EC on Evil and good toons while encumbered. It's called fake trade trick and strafe running. But when i do this i usually ask the person why they dont just have a mule in EC to hold all their stuff and they can't ever give a good answer lol. keep 500-1k in your bank for CR's, recharges and leave the rest on a Mule in EC.

I played Quellious during pre-Bazaar times, and it was EC Tunnel.

I remember the first time I went there. I was a 13 year old kid and I had been looting gnome guards for their FS weps and shields from a necro who was exping. He let me loot them because he couldn't be bothered. He told me I should go to 'the bazaar' in EC with my pp to see what I could get.

It was a Sunday, and I made it there and thought 'what the fuck is going on here'. Just unreal how many people were there. I thought for sure that it was an event - not an every day thing, and spent many hours there haggling - I ended up taking the 500pp I had looted and turned it into 1200pp at the end of the day. Thus my addiction to the tunnel had started.

When I logged back on next, probably mid-week, I was astonished that people were still there at 'the bazaar' (and I actually called it 'the bazaar' for the entirety of my EQ experience - I was a little shocked when they zone they created was called 'the bazaar').

I never got past level 34 my first go thru. The lure of the tunnel was too strong.

Using mules really only works of you have a trusted RL friend to help to transfer plat and equipment...unless you're two boxing.

Tox is too remote for anyone not porting. FP is centrally located, near popular lowbie zones, all guildmasters and has non-port access to the majority of game zones without much trouble.

All good and evil have no trouble banking and selling.

Why do you need guild masters in a trading zone? Obviously EC is a better place to be levelling up and such, in a million different ways, but if we're talking purely about trade, most of that stuff is irrelevant. Easy to make an erudite for transfers, doesn't matter if there are real newbies leveling there if you're just trading items and plat. As far as no-port access, I disagree pretty strongly. Without ports you can get to Freeport by taking a boat or running half an hour from the Karanas through Highpass. Neither one of these is any more sensible than however the hell you get to Toxx. Ports needed either way.
