If MMORPG players were around when God said, "Let there be light" they'd have called the light gay, and plunged the universe back into darkness by squatting their nutsacks over it.

The chat would always go nuts when the servers went down, people used to take on stupid names. I remember a bunch of people changing their names to moss snakes.

a_moss_snake_(your choice)

a_moss_snake_bard
a_moss_snake_centurion
a_moss_snake_revenant

Probably not funny now/you had to be there etc [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

i remember just before velious came out torvonilious had over 2000 people normally and would surge to 3000 when busy. Pretty sure other servers were about the same. It was so crowded that each individual spawn became a claimable camp.

I remember the 3k days... before Sony got all paranoid about declining population when DAoC started becoming more than rumors and killed all the "count" parameters to the who command and the server counts.

I was involved in a guildwar right before Kunark when people were bored and it was kinda fun [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] We called it the "Battle of South Ro" at the time and I think we got our asses handed to us. But it was just that one time.

Chat servers were mostly useless. When the servers went down everyone would join in on a channel and the moderator or GM would or could never answer questions, like how long the servers would be down. Occasionally we would make a room to organize the guild and get us ready for the repop, since you could make your own room and password protect it.

I totally forgot about the chat servers. Had a lot of good times there, actually.

Sounds like Tortue is following the rulebook precisely, then.

The original EQ "Strategy Guide" I had was full of inaccuracies and hilarious made-up things. One of the tips I remember reading was that as a Monk, you could lead a mob off a cliff to hurt it, but your Safe Fall would keep you from also taking damage. Then when it was low enough, you could just finish it off.
