How dare you people not put in "effort" to kill things in a 15 year old game.

You idiots need to get your objectivist bullshit out of video games.

MMOS in general aren't skill games, its about knowledge and numbers.

This is true, but it takes a raid leader to put it all together. It's one thing to read a strat and copy it. Its something different to create a strategy based on your guild roster and their relative skill levels. Everyone can talk shit about wow all they want, but 25m hard mode icecrown citadel (sindragosa, putricide, lich king for example) was no fucking joke for a raid leader, take away the dmg/hp/healing buffs and it was almost mathematically impossible. Neither was vanilla nefarian, 25m +0 yogg-saron. I heard cthun was horribly difficult but i didn't play at that point. The point is you worked with what you had.

Typically in wow, you could have 5-7 people carrying the other 20 by doing all the important jobs. It didn't work like that for the mentioned fights. Everyone had to be precise and a single fuckup would be disaster. It works the same here, 5-7 with knowledge of mechanics can carry everyone else, who is pretty much following the leader.

Not sure where I was going with this, but I just get irritated when people act like 100% of wow raiding is for the lowest common denominator just because all the easy mode shit exists.

Wow was easy mode tho... First off its instanced. You have all the time in the world to prep for it before. What's about corpse recovery??? Yup.

You're right, this disproves my argument...

They are merging because they mutually decided its in their best interest. We can sit here and guess all we want. We aren't able to form any reasoning behind why a group of people do things unless they tell us.

I think your observation 'due to over regulation by server staff' and the analogy to the alcohol prohibition is not accurate. First, it is most definitely a result of the new rules; however, is the regulation overboard? That's an opinion. I'm sure, as a whole, they will get some more competitive and ffa kills. However, will they benefit more than they would working separately? It appears that the leadership thinks so.

It remains to be seen exactly why guild are doing this. My guess is prepping for velious which may require larger forces to bring down encounters.

Corpse recovery is stupid and annoying. Theres not much practice ir preparing you can do just because its instanced. Theres a reason wow was successful. They learned from the mistakes of everquest and changed them in wow. Simple.

Preparing for it?? Thats everquest. Get resist gear and as much people as possible. You can have endless deadweight in eq.
Oh no doubt I'm just saying the things that make eq so punishing (which is why I play) they made less punishing on wow

The reason wow was successful is because they took what was great about EQ and dumbed it down to the lowest common denominator.

They didn't "fix mistakes". They just made it easy enough for everyone.
