I can't stomach the thought of levelling a toon up to raiding level using the lead-'em-by-the-nose quest/mission/whatever WOWclone bullshit that Live is now.

live is still grinding btw. there is quests for gear tho which is nice. finally everquest has quests.

The problem is that Sony has stated several times that they never saved the original Everquest code (WTF Sony?!?!). This is why the original progression servers were horrible with code, quests and instances available from day 1 which was never in classic EQ and hell yeah guilds took advantage of that!
To be honest, the best realization of classic EQ is right here with P1999. There are a lot of issues which I would fix in the gaming environment but the underlying server is in my opinion, close enough..
