One country's economy grew rapidly whilst the social bonds slowly overtime decayed to the point where family and social life have been almost irreversibly changed for the worse. The other; whilst poor, had extremely strong social and family bonds, but since the wall collapsed have sadly been subjected to the same degredation of those bonds. Capitalism is a shit pit that while giving us the illusion or 'working' simply doesn't. It's all very well generating massive wealth but when that wealth is funneled to the top 1 to 2% of the worlds population (which incedentally also pay the least % back of that wealth in taxes) you have to question it's viability. I do believe that since Capitalism's domination the poor have gotten poorer and there has never been as many hungry people in the world. Countries obsession with GDP is a malaise born out of capitalism that just emphasises that capitalism gives 0fucks to human happiness and human well being

Really, capitalism/socialism would work, but the top 5% in either situation must abuse their power (wealth) in order to maintain it. That dollar is not worth what you think it is. It's what you are told it is. For the greater good of society, socialism. In America, we just move the socialism into corporations. If we could properly value and share wealth it wouldn't matter what system we had, it would be able to be just. We could be fine with a whole bunch of systems. Such is life.
