Red99 is what it is and likely will never grow beyond that. It's effectively a one guild server for end game content. There's a lot of finger pointing for why that is, some blame nihilum,
some the competition, some the staff, some the rules, some all of the above. If you're in nihilum you'll get gear, down dragons with little to no effort 99.9% of the time and do so until you burn out unless you're a neckbeard. If you join the opposition you'll likely bang your head against the wall accomplishing little. If you choose to just go FFA no allegiance you'll find little world pvp worth playing significant time here for. Every several months there's a one to two week period of mass pvp and excitement which usually quickly dies off.

Is the server fun? Sure, there's fun to be had and in a MMO you ultimately make your own fun. But I think few would honestly dispute that this server is even close to living up to the potential of an eq pvp server, which is why many look toward teams99 currently.

My advice? If you're here to relive end game content , give it a shot roll up and join nihilum. If you're here for the journey? Join blue. Here for exciting pvp? Wait till teams99.

Team server was the worst thing they could ever announce, and will continue to be the bane of R99 as long as the idea continues to exist. Prior to the announcement, r99 was peaking in the 200s on a daily basis for the first time ever. Its taken months and talks of velious to restore hope to the playerbase. Teams really offers nothing other than another server where the neckbeards will have an even greater advantage when they will roll 3+ characters, one for each team to dominate the competition as they would on an FFA server. Sure, it will be fun at first, but it will ultimately dry up soon as players get leveled up and find a lack of contested content to pvp over. With velious on both blue and red, teams99 would be destined for failure if launched prior to the completion of Velious content on both servers.

Pretty much the worst thing you could do is search for answers on these forums. Those who dwell here make up about 25% of the people that actually play, and 20% of those players are disgruntled members of the losing team or has-beens from a bygone era of internet gaming.

Log in, have fun and send tells to a few random members of Nihilum, Azrael and other smaller guilds for a more accurate survey.

Only 2 of my banned characters were 60, and they were all banned for a single offense: deleting a players character who stole multiple characters, stripped characters and deleted a character and then got off scott free while cashing in with RMT and posting our entire guilds personal info on the forums.

By all means tho, pretend I'm the bad guy.

The one thing you learn about P99 is the rules are only the rules when the GMs/Rogean say they are the rules. Other times they are whatever.

Lol where do you get these stats and numbers? we had 150 peak when teams was announced, the same as it has been since I started playing here in 2012. The only time the server touched 200 people this year was during blue down time.

PS: Nobody in Nihilum should be commenting on the health of the server.

I've been seeing between 150 to 185 on so far these past couple months

Don't listen to the curmudgeons, I've been playing for a little over a month and am having a blast. Shitty cloth gear and all.

You have to separate end game from the journey to that point. My post is directed at the end game scene of red99. I think the initial play through can be fun, though if this is your first return to eq after a long layoff, I think blue might provide a more enjoyable experience of nostalgia.

Team's 99 will be great, huge population for sure. Red will still be ok for ffa pvp. but teams will be way better, just the idea of a fresh new server. hopefully we can just one day call p99red the beta pvp server.
