I wouldn't say they're being different. A lot of games sadly are going the anime/cartoon route. Look at Diablo 3 compared to Diablo 2. Path Of Exile is closer to Diablo 2's graphics.

Graphics don't make a game, but for me they can break a game. When a game looks like anime or a cartoon I'm turned off. I know this is just art and not screenshots but it shows what it will be like.

Firstly WoW doesn't look anything like anime.
Secondly this looks nothing like anime.
Thirdly we get you don't like anime, but don't call things anime or even anime-like when they're clearly not.

Like I care about the difference between cartoons and anime. And yes to me this looks vaguely anime, like they're purposely appealing to a young demographic.

It's not about the differences between 'cartoons' and 'anime'. The phrase 'cartoon' is extremely subjective, 'anime' however is a very specific style of animation, animation which this is not that type.

That's not why I dislike the way EQ Next looks though. I like some cartoons; Spongebob kicks ass and some of my childhood cartoons like Thundercats and Voltron are still somewhat enjoyable. I want my MMOs to have a sense of realism, which classic EQ and DAOC sort of had (for their time, graphics were very limited then), Rift sort of has now, but WoW does not:
