I also wonder that if it isn't just that there's way more far-right people than far-left people, but I can't tell if that's just because I am a far-leftist involved in local politics in a pretty right-wing state, Georgia.

I mean the simple answer that some people like to posit is that statistically speaking people on the far-right tend to be less educated than those on the left. I wouldn't agree that's the only reason but I do think there is some merit to that. There also wasn't quite a figurehead for them like there already were on the far left with multiple different politicians...so there was a void Trump could fill without any noticeable competition.

I also think the left shares some blame for this whole fiasco. They spent 8-10 years pre-2016 basically telling white people how awful they are and essentially implying they should feel like shit for even being born white (regardless of economic status, ironically). So it made it really easy for someone like Trump to tap into that in 2016 and made people happy to finally hear someone telling them it was okay to be white (especially in some of those swing states where there was a white demographic that felt victimized by the left for no reason).

So you have a combo of lower education making people more susceptible to someone like Trump who just makes up lies, room for someone like Trump to come in and be the guy and energize that base, and the left alienating people who are more willing to now support a guy like Trump who doesn't spend his time telling them how awful and privileged they are.

Like I said though it's so ironic. This is a guy who I've heard multiple times make fun of dumb poor southern rednecks (he thinks basically everyone in the south and midwest falls into this category)...yet they all believe he gives a shit about them lol
