The purpose of pointing this fact out is that collective demonization of any group of people is wrong, even white people. Being ignorant of the fact that slavery has been practiced by literally every group of people in all of human history nurtures a sort of ever-present animus against white people uniquely. The more information you have about the state of the world at present and also world history allows you to better put things in perspective, and avoid unfair demonization of entire groups of people you've never met.
