Unfortunately I think that apathy is not quite good enough. I'm from california and thats what we call polite, and that kind of polite leaves people feeling alone and depressed.

Because you end up with vocal haters, and silent apathetics or polites that get nothing done.

Its hard work though. Its uncomfortable and being helpful puts you in harms way, so its risky compared to doing nothing.
