Identity politics is a meaningless term, especially when used as a form of criticism by the right. All of the things that they support contain identity politics, because identity politics is all politics. All of the things the left supports contain identity politics, because identity politics is all politics. Water's wet.

Where’s the identity in that? Iranian? I’d say it’s mutually beneficial pragmatism that primarily comes from me being an electrical engineer with a hard on for windmills

Catering to and focusing on a particular group or class within politics absolutely happens and it absolutely is divisive. There's a difference between advocating for a particular group and taking part in identity politics. Identity Politics is the extreme version of advocating.

I think you're failing to see the point I am making. Can't tell if it's deliberate, wondering why I even care.

I'm saying you should aim to avoid playing into identity politics. You're saying (I think) that it happens no matter what. Which is true. If you know a certain demographic likes you, you're going to lean into that. But at the end of the day, it becomes divisive when you focus your full attention into one demographic. We shouldn't have the "Only White People Should Be Provided For" party. That's identity politics.
