Greed/need was pretty hilarious, though.
I wish I had youtube vids of all the crazy shit you hear about need rools back then. "when I'm soloing i could give (weapon/item x) it to my pet and it would be awesome. "I need that haste item because I'm a priest/caster and my weapon skill sucks this will help me raise it faster!".

I like the idea of 'NBG', that said, the term is misleading. You start with everything your character 'needs' at level 1. It's more 'Upgrade or Greed', except a saleable item is an upgrade for every character in terms of bank roll. And then you have to consider most 'need' items won't be 'needed' for ever and will eventually be sold on.
If you want to camp a specific item, start a group for it, be clear on the objective of the group and maybe make a concession to the group to show your appreciation of them agreeing with the loot rules (paying them all if the item drops, abstaining from other loot, promising to help them with their own camps later or whatever).
