You mean an executive who isn't a scientist admitting in the gotcha video by Project Veritas that he doesn't know how chief scientists would attempt to use directed evolution to influence mutations on the gene N501Y.
Classic Project Veritas pulling apart context in a trap like bar setting for a drama moment they can sensationalize. And people wonder why no one respects Project Veritas except gullible antivaxxers that need a gotcha headline to be disingenuous towards those who choose to get vaccinated.
If you watch the video the executive even jokes that the virus came out Wuhan out of thin air -.- . Sensationalizing something that isn't his field to essentially show off. It was already well established the Covid19 virus was found in bats even going by the name of Khosta-2 at one time.

Generally we make the virus inactive in most cases to even start safely working with it. An
Influenza mismatch is caused by major and minor mutations of circulating viruses. We then make a virus vaccine for our strain that does not match the circulating strain. Then we determine the reduction in the effectiveness of our vaccine vs the circulating strains.
In all honesty we look at the genome for the virus and past variants and determine potential expressed genes that could cause a worsening chance the virus finds another means to connect to the ACE2 receptor of a human cell. Ugh... and the majority of infections and vaccine tests at very late stages are done with mice and then basset hounds. Not monkeys
