Having a lockable front door to your house is, in fact, better than just having a big open hole. People can still break in, but it will be harder, and thus fewer will. What is your point?

It doesn't have to be a literal wall, "build the wall" is just as easily simple shorthand for "actually enforce immigration and border policy, and fund the institutions that carry those things out" which dems seem to be allergic to doing.
