It's not that they couldn't figure out how to instance or get mobs with more than 32k hp. They simply chose not to at first.
Proof ?

Let's get one thing straight Zeelot, I totally believe you.

I know you will do anything you can to cockblock any guild inside VP because it's exactly what TR tried to do with TMO.

I expect nothing else from you [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Training in VP was instigated by me when TR/IB broke the rotation agreement. The rotation would have been respected on our end no matter what. At one point I actually felt IB/TR had earned a spot in a rotation with us, so we might as well share. We had a pretty decent rotation agreement going, then basically TR got mad because TMO left PD up too long while contesting Noble so they went to break the agreement. Unfortunately they didn't realize I was already bound at VP door expecting this sort of behavior from them. An entire guild of supposedly skilled players got decimated for hours by a single SK.

At least when I brought in the TMO raid force that day, IB was still trying to go for dragon kills in that environment. Every single guild that has zoned into VP since the IB fiasco has zoned in solely to grief TMO and not to attempt dragons.

Considering the approach of other guilds is "interfere with TMO in VP without intent to kill dragons," there is no reason for my training in VP stance to change.

People call TMO the bullies, but we have merely been fighting off griefers and continuing business as usual.

Forced Entry and BDA for example, have frequently brought in griefers, but I've never seen them do it with the intent of going for a dragon. Unfortunately for them, all they accomplish is making us better at dealing with griefers.

I have none, and you may be right actually. I read somewhere that until the year 2000 numbers only went up to like 50,000 or something. Thank god for the digital age.

Finally, Stromm. Sullon Zek was like living in a war zone, but for me Stromm was like training for the Olympics. I teamed up with Hutto and Thorrs/Hammr. We focused, we strategized, we did everything we could to be the best. We thought we had joined up with like-minded people in Enraptured, but it turned out that the leadership was flaky and incompetent--exactly the opposite of what they presented. I moved to Cypher for a long list of server firsts. When Faite's favoritism and RMT corruption started to affect the guild, I joined Realm of Insanity and continued to excel.

I played on Stromm. Was one of the first rogue epics on the server and no guild =) Cypher let me tag along to turn in for my general and I got the golden quill or whatever it was that let me finish my epic faster, I think I was third epic'd rogue.

a signed short integer has a maximum value of 32,767

if they had decided to go with shorts from the get go (and quite possibly so, given memory management was still a big deal in 1999), they would be used shorts all over the code, and later converting every instance to 32 bit integers would have been 2 much effort and open to introducing bugs

I guess one way to find out would be to reverse engineer the player profile struct from an original eqgame.exe

I was talking more about Instancing. You're probably correct about 32k HP cap.
