This is actually the only decent analogy with some edits:

1 police station released 15 prisoners from jail because they fucked up their work schedule and left their posts. Prisoners have been released before for no reason and nothing ever happened to them, sometimes this police station does this. They were not given a reason or explanation they just knew they could leave. So they left. During this time they went to a grocery store and bought food, some went home and slept, some went and got laid (jail cornhole is not satisfying). The next day it is on the news that 15 prisoners escaped from jail and that they are wanted by law enforcement.

Before any prisoners can turn themselves in they are all shot and killed on sight. Family that allowed them to stay overnight where also arrested and put into jail. The grocery clerk that sold them food also jailed for aiding escaped convicts. Their girlfriends, boyfriends, and wives also jailed....

The police that did the executions themselves had beef with the prisoners and their relatives and hoped for more executions for people who they knew would help them.

If the prisoners knew they had a life sentence I'm sure they knew them going home would be a problem..... again another fucking idiot for the books

if we learned anything from this event.. its that the staff are people. they're people who have feelings and try to make reasonable compromises for the upkeep (note: not necessarily the same as "good") of the server that may or may not affect other people's feelings or hard work.

they're doing many of us a huge favor every single second they don't pull the damn plug on the whole thing.

if you got banned, and didn't cheat/knowingly encourage cheating, go over to the ol support threads and explain the situation. your case will be kindly considered by one of the many humans who is tasked with that job.

shit happens. if you're guilty of being fully cognizant of the unbanning error and STILL helped transfer items, why don't you just go explain the honest circumstances? they'll probably deeply appreciate you stating your case there, in private, rather than letting tears flow for maximum public effect. and lemmie tell ya, if people 'appreciate' the way you approach them, you'll have a whole fuckton of a better chance getting them to help you out/understand your misgivings

edit: oh the irony of this whole thing is that the people who decided on the solution (bannings) are probably not even the same people responsible for the programming error! need to take a step back and look at this realistically.. this shit is so far away from real-world drugs/jailbreaks/fuckinganything

No such thing as a life sentence here. Sometimes characters are unbanned in front of upcoming expansions.

Thats way too much assumption to be making ban decisions about. Take me for example. I stopped playing something about 8month to a year ago. I only started playing again a week ago. Now, i wont be joining Nihilum again, but for the sake of argument, lets say i did around the time these unbannings happened. I would probably not have known who the fuck were all these banned characters.

Now probably these people were in voice saying HOLY SHIT my characters been unbanned, quick take my items before it gets banned again. But thats an assumption.
If the person did not tell me that his character was banned and handed me items, like i was handed a dracolich 2h on day2 of being in Nihilum, it would have been because i quote unquote "knew who i was associating with" and would have been banned for this.

Unless you know for sure that this is what happened in voice, youre making assumptions.
