Teachers, Cops both suffer from institutional rot.

I wonder what the common theme is?

Unions

"Hmmmn... what's wrong with this extremely complicated and multifaceted issue across two wildly different professions with two wildly different unions... I know, the thing I hate!"

lol, SC has no teacher's union and it's the worst fucking place to be a teacher in the country, second only to other states without unions. We just moved to Washington, where teachers have a union, and my wife more than doubled her pay, along with numerous other nice perks and leverage against abuse from admin. And what do you know, education is orders of magnitude better as well

Unions are an issue with both teachers and police but in both cases it's better to have unions than not have unions. It has more to do with professional culture than the presence of a union. Unions are the only leverage an employee has against an employer.

I’ve been in a Union. You describe the problem with unions. Excess pay and admin has no recourse to deal with bad employees. When you’re talking about institutions that are here to serve the public it’s obvious how this can cause issues. Admin abuse gets ironed out in the private sector, why can’t it work in the public sector? Teacher Unions are out of control. They control school boards and are only there to protect teachers. They are not there to foster an education for the customers(kids), this is a problem.

I'll fully admit the private sector can go to far. You are not willing to admit Unions can and have gone too far.

It took them 6 years to fund the schools, carpetbagger.

Now they're broke again and want to close some.

“Somewhat of a unique job” in that I’m sure loggers don’t have their customers constantly verbally abusing them, lying to them, or threatening them every day at work

Do loggers have someone in the back of their car screaming profanity at them sometimes, or maybe someone pissing in the car back there in defiance, and then have to be grabbed by the logger and restrained while actively physically combative covered in their own piss?

Definitely a unique job

Sounds like an opening for some Shock Doctrine shit. I do not keep up with SC politics. You got some reading for the class?

Cops aren't workers. I like unions, but not as much as I dislike cops.
