i wasn't implying that you need to be anything else to be nationalistic. i cheer for american athletes in the olympics like anyone else.
i have also read about their crazy housing system, but i am always skeptical of what i read on china. not that i can read chinese, so idk. not that i have read anything about what the chinese have said about a zero covid case goal, but america publicly declared war multiple times on the concept of drugs. so maybe they are speaking in somewhat abstract terms by setting that goal.

that is partly what i was getting at. i don't see the chinese as being communist. not anymore. a shitload of people that capitalism 'lifted out of poverty' live in china.
seems like a temporary bargain. freedom is too vague.
