Your beginner understanding of faith is spot on. Time to level up. Certainly some are raised to never question God, that is wrong. The meaning of Israel is essentially one who wrestled with God. God understands our inherent desire to question, he hopes you see his works and come to him through that understanding. Jesus did not want blind servants, look at the apostles, they were not the most devout and committed, they had doubts and questions.
