What I see is a vast plain of people not getting what they deserve.

I never said "black lives don't matter", all lives matter, especially and including black lives. That's irrelevant to the discussion, however, because I'm talking addrssing the rhetoric that follows that statement, which includes the concept of "white privilege" existing NOW. There are no anti-black laws standing on the books in my state.

Did systemic racism exist? Yes.

Does it exist now, absolutely. Every time rhetoric which denigrates "white" people is parroted AT institutions, and is allowed to persist as acceptable speech when it isn't describing what USED to exist, cast into the public consciousness as occuring right now that is racism. This acceptance of hate speech against "whites" cast into the present AT institutions is by definition institutional.

Likewise, does anti-black racism/prejudice exist within the minds and sentiments of our police force in the US now? Arguably, yes. But it is being addressed institutionally, whilst anti-"white" hate speech, and violence against "whites" by disenfranchised minorities is being disregarded/ignored institutionally, which, by definition is racism.

I wrote extensively about this while in college in response to institutionally accepted racism against whites, citing hateful remarks published in academic journals by Krugman et Al, who seemed to erroneously believe it was ok to battle racism, by being reverse-racist, and how putting racism behind us would be better accomplished by a concerted effort to elevate minority groups institutionally including in pop culture and that tearing down seemed like a rather dehumanizing backwards approach to addressing the issue.

Do you address the legacy by tearing everyone down to the level "blacks" once were in the public mind to reify "equality" or do we build that public perception upward?

We can be equally dehumanized, or we can rehumanize the "black man", but we can not support doing both approaches simultaneously, or else we merely replace anti-black racism with anti-white racism, which is still the same dehumanizing problem.
