It would most certainly be summoned by a Dwarven Cleric with a certain quest reward...

Brell's Blessed Stout anyone?
Mmm sounds tasty! Wait...I can smell arsenic! (isn't it odorless? I'm afraid to google poison while at work)

So I managed to get everything up and running last night (fairly painlessly, which was awesome). The only issue I'm running into now is that whenever I alt-tab out of the game and come back, it throws me into windowed mode and I have to manually put it back to Fullscreen every time. A little annoying but not a game breaker. From what I read on the forums, it seems pretty normal.

Other than that, it's been smooth sailing for me! I made a human monk (I really wanted Iskar but I wanted to ease myself into the classic mode and not give myself too many headaches by starting off with an evil character) and I'm absolutely loving it! I can't wait to get home and get back to leveling (only level 4 atm) but I've already had TONS of help from players in the game. The first 10 minutes I was on, a druid named "Sain" gave me 200 plat and a Wu's Quivering Staff...Awesome guy! Not sure if you guys know him but he's awesome. And of course, I appreciate all of your guys' help as well! I hope to see you in-game sometime! [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Hmm, I'm not sure if by manually you mean going into Options and changing to Fullscreen there, but Alt+Enter will toggle between Windowed Mode and Fullscreen for you.

Yeah, that's what I meant. But now I'm using Alt+Enter and it's all good, I'm getting used to it. Is this something that everyone has to do or should I try installing the "WinEQ2" optional stuff? It doesn't bother me, but if I can quickly fix it, then cool.

The only problem I see with these zones is the Powerlevelers that come in and wipe out entire areas or zones without any regard to who is there, was there, or comes in.

I think you'll find that a human Monk is more welcome in groups than an iksar Monk and will be faster to level both because of that and because of the iksar's experience penalty. You made a wise choice in my opinion.

Welcome!

Look for Yardcore if you need to port and bind to get you started.

I don't play that much due to my schedule/family time but feel free to add me as a friend. I can help you as much as I can.

Right before I started on P1999 I made a F2P character on Live, got a few levels, and ran around (i.e. using PoK books) exploring some of the old, now deserted zones. Then I saw Freeport and that was kind of like the last straw for me.

The population here is like a happy medium between the oft-overcrowded zones of classic Live and the ever-deserted zones of present Live. There aren't nearly as many noobs in CB or Blackburrow, and you won't see 100+ people in DL, but as was mentioned above, the population is healthy enough that you should have little trouble finding groups. I haven't grouped since the low 20s, but I leveled up to that point mostly grouping in Blackburrow and Unrest. Each weeknight those zones would often times have 10+ people and finding a group was no problem.

In a way this slightly reduced population from classic Live is actually better because you have more of the zone to yourself. In classic Live, I would join a Blackburrow group and be confined to camping the green room, for example. But on P1999, Blackburrow groups will usually just plow through the whole zone. In Unrest, a main room group can usually kill non-stop instead of sitting around waiting for limited respawns. My main is only 47 and I have been exclusively soloing from 20+, so I can't comment on grouping at higher levels, but I really enjoyed grouping at lower levels here.
Yeah, seeing Freeport was kind of the last straw for me as well. I had a slightly different experience with the F2P Live Everquest though. Sure, the population might be larger but considering the quality of that population, you might as well be playing EQ by your lonesome. Everyone and I do mean everyone is boxing. You don't need to group at all because you're some beast in epic gear (that drops from large rats who give you a bubble of exp per kill), as a level 20-ish Monk, I literally sat in the middle of a yellow-con mob spawn, killing add after add for 20 minutes straight never going below 50% health and gaining about 5 levels in an hour. The Mercs kill the game. Project 1999 is so close to the real thing that it might as well be a time machine. It's amazing. I'm loving it so much.
