Posting my controversial belief that the word "Retard" is not offensive, and that everyone who freaks out about it because their nonexistant cousin is retarded should really stop and think twice.

Your cousin is retarded? Does that mean they tend to act stupid and make poor decisions based on incomplete thought processes. That's unfortunate for them, and it sucks.

However, for the RETARD who trained the throne room for the 30th time, by making the same damn errors even though they should really know better, I have no sympathy, and find the word retard fitting.

That said, I tend to behave and not R&F, even on the R&F board.
Just felt like throwing that out there.

Yes, in options.

While I know of no way of totally disabling /ooc, it *can* be moved to its own chat window, and then that chat window can be both minimized and made to fade-out. Doing the above effectively removes /ooc from your view except when desired.

Yes, you can go about it a couple different ways. Depending on your UI, you can either right click your chat window and select Chat Filters (or whatever its specific name is) and deselect OOC. Or, you can go under Options, Filters tab (or whatever it's called), and Hide OOC.

As far as the original post goes, I agree that there should be a sense of civility and decency towards fellow gamers. OOC spam about "Happy Birthday Hitler" and shit like that last night was annoying. Personal attacks and flames are also unneeded, especially in a public channel like that. However, remember this is the internet, and if you've been on the internet for longer than 5 minutes, you'll already know that you need to develop a tough skin to survive.

There is no use to this language. It offers nothing to conversation and offers nothing to the topic other than making the forums slightly offensive to some users and some potential users. Is it really that hard to just refrain from using those terms? It is really so tough to just not be a jackass?
this.

Whether or not your personally bothered by offensive language isn't what's important, the fact is some people are offended... so please refrain from using it is all the devs are asking.

^^

Actual quote from Finawin lol.

Does Finawin think how language like this may offend female players? Lets say, a mother who is playing this game?

Ive got nothing against Finawin personally, ive had good grouping experiences with him before but the language he uses just makes him look like a dumbass.

Im not surprised he was suspended.

Everyone has a loose tongue until you offend someone, most people wont care that your using the word retarded until you come across that player that's borderline and whoops!

I'm sure a lot of people that play on this server don't care about offending people, most seem to spend the majority of their time trying to offend others just to piss them off.

This isn't the community the devs wanted to create and whether you feel that a word is offensive or not is meaningless. So I hope people don't come to the forums looking for sympathy because they feel they have been wronged by verbally abusing people.

The problem is server wide /ooc. It needs to be limited to zones.

So what we should do is report any and all things said both in forums and in game?
