Don't expect red99 PvP to be quite the same. VZTZ had a lot of ridiculous mechanics that made some classes absurdly powerful or just affected how most fights would have turned out in an environment with actually correct code. I expect a lot of VZTZers are in for a surprise if Rogean decides to go with time-relevant resist rates and damage formulae.
I agree there will be a lot less melee kills but I also believe that even if mimicking classic you will find that it's not anything like live was, ignorance was the greatest variance on live that is eliminated here, everyone knows what to farm, where its at, and the quickest spots to level and farm platinum. There is no learning curve therefore no guesswork, also live had alot of ridiculous pvp bugs like being able to charm a PC into attacking red con npcs, and other silly things that won't be coded in I imagine. Just like any game those who play well will succeed.

More surprise with lack of MQ (I'm sure there's a working version for it one way or another right now).

Wonder how they have done on managing item duping. Should be a very different experience without mass duped diamonds/blue diamonds/jacs and ez-MQ.

You can get pretty solid resists without rare gem gear, though. If the devs go with classic-like resists, 100 is enough to resist most casts and 150 is near-immunity. My dwarf warrior on VZTZ 2.0 (were my screenshots on the other page from 2.0? I never found out if there was another wipe after that one, but I've heard about VZTZ3.0) had the following gear less than two weeks in:

2x Earring of Magic Reflection (+10)
White Gold Necklace (+7)
Split Paw Hide Mask (+5)
Skull-shaped Barbute (+10)
2x Wolf's Eye Golden Bracelet (+14)
Mithril Vambraces (+5)
Bloodstained Mantle (+10)
Dwarven Ringmail Tunic (+8)
Mithril Greaves (+5)
Runed Bone Fork (+10)

With the natural 30 svm for dwarf and +25 for being a level 50 warrior, that's 139 unbuffed svm. A rogue or hybrid can wear mostly the same gear and sit around 100. Add a +40 buff and you're pretty well off with fairly modest gear.

on classic coded everquest you would be pretty much immune to magic based spells with that unbuffed MR.

Less than two weeks? Haha man, assuming red99 has the same exp rates as p99, you're in for a treat!

Oh, I know. Leveling on VZTZ was a breeze, especially <50. After the wipe, some people were 50 like four days in because they had some all-magician crew or some shit. I kinda liked that leveling was trivial and part of me wishes it would be on red99 as well, because it's not the leveling grind we're hungering for anymore, especially not since p99. I'm ok with it, though.

The point was that, besides the leveling, a couple of weeks of non-hardcore play can get you 100+ MR on a melee. None of the above items take any real effort to get. Actually the earrings were the hardest.

It's true. Gloinz can joust and most of these nerds have no clue.
