I have the original EQ CD from back in 1999. Not sure if the UI can be extracted from that. I remember a while ago when a server came out that required just Original EQ/Kunark/Velious CD's. Was just a testing server but it had the original tutorial etc working. That tutorial was bad ass.

I pulled the classic UI out from the original CD months ago - the issue here is the serverside software which isn't based on 'classic'. Lots of features have been turned off (and even more can as well - hotbars 2 to 4 etc) if the devs can find the code to do that.

The XML code is completely different from what it was for classic and I don't think it would even be possible to go back to the first style at all. Like someone said there is a classic looking UI out there but its no where near perfect unless you like playing at 800x600/1024x768 crappy resolution because of the way the windows are put together.

Here are the bmp files, good luck: Link

The only way the original UI could be usable is if it was fully reinvented so that it can actually scale correctly to different monitor resolutions. It can be stretched and skewed 640 X 480 crud.

I always played in that mode. I liked seeing everything without any information boxes hiding orcs from view! Plus it just feels fantasy style with those rocky textures and cloth.

Is there a way for the classic UI to be implemented for this release? I mean if we are going to go classic, it is all or nothing IMO.
