a simple way to fix the toxicity of this camp would be to ban camping out in PoH. If you camp out or /q, go ld and survive, your char is moved to Sro or WC spires. Voilą

No more monopolizing of the spawn this way because anyone would need to come with a break group and fight in order to track
There is a much simpler solution: add a single common spawn point.

On Live, literally everyone (in any classic source I've ever seen) ported it up to hate, raided it, and went back down. Maybe a group hung out after a raid or something, but they ported out too. No one stayed, for a simple reason: respawn.

On p99 there is a safe spot with no respawn. That safe spot may or may not have existed on live (I've never seen classic evidence that it did) ... but even if it did, no one knew about it, and all gameplay in that zone revolved around not knowing.

If it's a question of adding one (maybe) unclassic mob and having the entire server actually play hate the way '99 players did ... vs. keeping the safe spot (that maybe didn't even exist in the original game) ... how can anyone argue that one mob isn't the more classic option.

Bring back the Hate of '99!

You're giving a free escape hatch to de-risk an otherwise risky zone. Monks for example basically gain the ability to gate. You don't have to stand up and cast to be able to exit zone so you can survive virtually any scenario with an FD class, reset, and go back in. You could train the whole zone away from entry, abuse the mechanic for a safe exit and re-enter with a clear path from entrance to your intended destination. So now even non-FD classes can navigate the zone without the risks they face today. You could abuse it to turn historically dirty pulls into clean pulls by effectively having a permanent TL box up at all times.

And that's just initial impressions. Given enough time, thought, and creativity which this community has in spades and the use cases for abuse will dwarf any ideas I came up with in a few seconds.

Because the purpose of the server isn't to reflect what someone "remembers" their own "classic experience" being like on their server.

There's too much of a slippery slope there. The classic era was one of emergent behaviors and information filtering out over time. That's why everyone's experiences on their servers were so different at times from the experience someone else had on another server. Plus, when it came to raid information this information was typically even more closely guarded with some exceptions...so to your point, it's entirely possible this safe spot existed and a lot of guilds on a lot of servers didn't know about it, but a guild on another server may have and we would never know because they weren't posting it on forums because why would they?

I agree it would be great if there was a defined "classic experience" and the server could be adjusted towards that. But there's not really. Servers were different. Different techniques and degrees of knowledge on various things showed up at different times for different groups of people. Now, I think certainly by PoP this changed and most people knew quite a bit about the classic era expansions, but that's of course not the timeline we're emulating here.

Game mechanics will always be abused if they can be.

Ban the bad actors, don't change the game.
