I love paladin, love to sixman tank. Warrior is a lot of fun there too though and you can be a badass and get lots of pras if you're attentive to the battlefield situation. Get on the mob asap and stand on it's toes. A lot of casters know to root before they throw something high threat. Just expect the rogue to always wait to be hit in the face before they bother to evade. They're probably overgeared and being leveled by a mage or some other low priority raid class that is used to paying very little attention to the fight.
Also, positioning is everything. Strafe to a position around the mob so you can see your high threat mates. Watching for particles that will rip your target in their direction. You'll be prepared to quarter turn and straferun to them faster.

If an epic is your goal, paladin is far easier than necro or warrior. Paladin one takes a while, but other than the books is pretty easy. Can sometimes buy the book to

You get the extra ease for a knight soloing and aggro spells, or the durability of a warrior with an optional dps disc.
Either way you sacrifice something to get something. All the more reason to go with your gut.

You can level a rogue to 50ish and get a freebie epic to scratch that itch.
Green scale for sure sucks, took me forever

Having a defensive warrior in the stable is indeed useful! Keep the faith with the warrior so long as you're having fun.

So 52 defensive aligns with vox/nagafen tanking. Is it needed? Or just makes it cake?

It’s never a waste of time to play a class that you enjoy. With that being said, raids are where Warriors really shine, and upgrades from raids make the Warrior way more enjoyable. But again, if you’re having fun, that’s all that matters. They tank fine in groups, they just don’t have the immediate snap aggro of a knight
