I believe the ideal rogue spec for leveling hardcore is combat
Edit: also, don’t forget about escape artist racial. Keep it hot-keyed and easily reachable. Very handy root/snare break that most classes don’t get the luxury of 2nd edit: You can do a thing called gouge kiting where you have a mob snared and continue to gouge it which incapacitates it for a brief time, allowing you to regen back the energy to gouge again. Once you do this to 5 combo points later on when you have kidney strike, you can then stun and pile on some free damage. Doing this method makes the rogue take almost no damage against a single, if needed

Yea I'm on Defias Pillager. Healing derps is fun and all but I'm experimenting with rogue and mage as high-skill DPS-y classes. Rogue is nice being able to nope out of terrible situations people put you in in dungeons. Mage has that ability too somewhat but not as straightforward. Mage and rogue both good dps but mage has definite AOE advantage in dungeons.
Going rogue for now because the toolkit is just super compelling for hardcore.

One last tip that I seen a decent amount of rogues die to in hardcore highlights vids: If you go engineering, and use a target dummy, the dummy is considered your pet. This means if mobs are attacking it and the rogue uses vanish, once the target dummy dies the mobs will bee-line for the rogue and pull him out of stealth
Seen a lot of confused rogues die to this. Either that or vanishing and then accidentally bumping into a fire or torch, revealing them [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

ok sweet thanks for all the tips and suggestions! i cant wait to get started! i made a solo gnome mage for when shes unavailable to play the duo with me. i got him to 10 and had 2 or 3 dicey moments already where I was less than 10% life, but you learn from it and quickly adapt haha.
i briefly went and checked out my old Grobbulus RPPVP characters and was bored within 10 min. so it's definitely the HC rules that made this game fun for me again.

As I wait to see which EQ server I continue on, either p99 or PQ. I decided to give the hardcore servers a go as well starting tonight. Im narrowing my choices down to Rogue, Warrior or Mage atm. Although my first choice was Paladin, its not likely now cause I plan to roll horde.
