Its a secret recipe of low rez or low detail textures that allows maximum immersion and imagination. N64 graphics pretty much always worked because they had almost no textures. EQ graphics very similar.

Cell shading usually looks a bit too cartoony but I think something in that vein is the secret sauce.

A direct ripoff of the Zelda Breath of the Wild design might work good for EQ; cell-shaded characters, monsters, weapons, but the world itself is not cell shaded, so it doesn't get overly-cartoony and it also creates a really nice visual dynamic within the eye, because the things you naturally want to focus on (moving characters) look fundamentally distinct from the background\environment.

My dream is for the team that remastered Tony Hawk Pro Skater and Diablo 2 Resurrected to do the same thing to Everquest. Basically keep the base game in the background and overhaul the graphics, but in a tasteful way as to not screw up the original art style.

I truly think that team could do it and it'd be phenomenal. Too bad I don't own daybreak and have a few million dollars haha or I'd make it happen!!

i've had a hankering for a well-done everquest custom server. just throw all of the rules out the window and build something on the eq emu engine

i found this video of some emu where they made a gauntlet event out of the highway in trakanon's teeth, where they had to fight and dodge slimes coming down the pipe

i was laying awake at night sweating with a leg outside of my blanket and thinking to myself (unrelated)

why not do a server where you can just access every spell. and everyone can wear every gear too

but maybe skills take 10x longer to level and once you mem a spell you're stuck with it for like 4 hours.. or something

oh plus racial pvp, but race stats are redistributed so everyone gets an amount of starting stats that sums up to that of an ogre
