Wood elves get a dodge bonus? I’ve never heard of that...

Ogres make the best tanks in classic, bar none. FSI, and starting stats. In later expansions, stats can get maxed for nearly any character, but FSI is still very much valued.

Iksar are next on the list for best tank, especially for Velious when they actually have options to wear plate armor. Their natural regen, and their racial AC bonus that is stacked on top even after reaching AC cap per level.

My barbarian has a racial bonus of +85% parry/riposte, but only from the rear when using the barbarian only extra weapon slot "butt-sword".

It's almost certainly because at this point there is so much knowledge about the game that people go the min/max route.

Ogres are definitely the best race for Warriors from that perspective. They get frontal stun immunity, which is big for tanks, and their stats are easily the best, which is important for Warriors since they are so much more gear dependent than other tanks.

Trolls get regen, which is of course helpful.

That's not to say that Barbarians are unviable as tanks by any means. They're definitely a decent choice. But a lot of people pick Ogres for the reasons above.

so there's no shortage of warriors it's just that everyone makes ogre warriors instead of other races...?

god dammit. i specifically made a half elf bard and started in qeynos to group with barbarian warriors and there aren't any. i should've started in kelethin... i can't cross highpass without getting destroyed and i can't get my lull song or charisma song, and my purpose is non existent. god dammit...

and i wish i was japanese and rich too, and lived in tokyo, and was living off dividends from a mess of microsoft and facebook stock, and had 3 really hot girlfriends that were really interesting and artsy on top of really hot.
