Drugs may be helpful to reach the correct state of mind to seek the outer gods (especially if they stimulate the pineal gland).

However with proper meditation one can enter a trance like state making drugs unnecessary.

That is possible. Many scholars have speculated that most of the cults of humans outside of the known cults of the outer gods and the great old ones are deceptions of Nyarlathotep. Satan and Allah may just be two sides of the same cult created by Nyarlathotep intent on spreading madness to humanity.
