Hrm. Pretty sure I remember going to buy spells and remembering that I saw them cheaper on another vendor. I'll dig through my logs when I get home. I mentioned root because I'm almost positive that was one I saw it on and I ended up buying it from the cleric vendor in kaladim instead of the dude behind the counter in felwithe.

Spells are priced by the lowest level class that can cast them. For example, Root is a level 4 Wizard spell, so it will cost approximately the same as other level 4 spells, despite being a level 34 Necro spell.

Ah okay. I think that might be right since now that I think about it hybrid spells don’t cost ridiculous amounts just because you get them higher than the relevant class does

I don't remember spells being that pricey either so I tried doing a little digging:

lucy entry for wiz level 8 "shock of ice" spell scroll:

http://lucy.allakhazam.com/itemhistory.html?id=15656

note the cost changes:

initial entry : Live 2003-11-22 01:21 Added cost: '720'

change: Live 2005-10-29 22:23 Changed cost from '720' to '500'

change: Live 2012-03-20 03:46 Changed cost from '500' to '55'

Merchant-value was 7gp 20sp back in 2003, a far cry from the 4pp 4gp we have on green.
Of course 2003 is not 1999 so there might have been some pre-lucy price-changes...

sorry for doubleposting, but I can't edit posts:

found this: http://web.archive.org/web/200111250...ons.asp?Id=542

which fits with the current green pricing.

That price is from late 2001 though, so its not a definitive proof.

I'm playing a wiztard and I went to buy my level 8 speels. Each one is 4p and some change. I was like "Oh good gravy this is pricey." Sooooooooooooo I went to the archived alakazam EQ1 website to look up prices for the same speles. In original EQ Column of Frost is Mak Ixtaz - 1pp 4sp 9cp in Neriak. On green it is 4pp 2g 3s 8c. Why? What did casters do to deserve such a high increase of pricings?! I am so damn broke all the damn time.

Yes, I pick up every single thing I kill. Sell all da bone cheeps stacks, sell all da weepons and armours. I sell all da alochols! ALL DA LOOTS I SELL!!!! I turn in lizards for money. I sold my friend to a troll for money! I still have no moneys because I buy spells! NO I DONT BUY ALL SPEELS! JUST DAMAGE HIGH DAMAGE OH GOD!!!!
Just wait until 24+ and your spells not in store will cost you 500pp+ from these blue neck beards

yup for some reason all the spell prices on merchants, are 4 times what they were on live .

Its like whoever was in charge of item itemization, on merchants, didn't do any research, and just half assed it .

lvl 20 spells on live are 3pp each, here the same spells are 12pp, lvl 24 spells on live 4pp each, here they are 14pp to 17pp each .

Given that castersrealm from 2001(via waybackmachine) lists the same prices as green, id say that the p1999-staff did do *some* research.
http://web.archive.org/web/200112012...p?Class=Wizard

However I have also heard that other sites reached by waybackmachine lists prices that are way cheaper and corresponds with live(no links from me, only hearsay), then there must be some huge price-nerf after velious OR castersrealm was wrong back then. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Anyone remember any huge price-nerf from back then? My lookup on lucy, indicates that the price change was before lucy started collecting spell-prices around late 2003.

Or some links(from 1999-2001) that contradicts p1999 prices?

Just asking us to tough it up and pay the expensive prices, is only a good argument if it is the correct classic price. We signed up for classic, not some extra "hardmode" that isn't authentic. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Im inclined to believe castersrealm is correct though.
