Miscellaneous: Mage Epic pets are currently not classic on P99 (too overpowered)

Keep an eye on your pets health, when its down to 40% start meleeing yourself. This takes the pressure of your pet for a bit. (Cloth armour helps here if you can afford it)

Literally from your link. There are tons of examples there that says pet doesn't hold agro over PC in melee range. I mean, it did much earlier in the timeline but I don't see why you're bringing it up here.

Mist Panther on p99 is a level 60 that has a max hit of 280 so I dont even know how that pet is keeping up with it in those logs

It's because the mist panther on p99 is not classic. My guess is it was upgraded at some point after Velious.

EDIT: Should say, I did notice it was 280 hit per the wiki... never verified actual in game hit.

It is also interesting that the mist panther summons in the logs, granted that in those logs he is level 50+, but is still only hitting consistently for 40s and not the typical 100s+ like an above level 50 mob would do.

Its pretty much why the original poster chose that mob, its quite the anomaly. Has like 70k+ HP and very low hits, so you can do very long parses on it.

Any dev commentary if you would like some additional number crunching / research?

I noticed people in the logs are also saying how powerful the pet is, maybe back on live the HP was 3k and not 4k but the pets AC was much higher?

The pet on here has a lot of hp but gets CHUNKED, even by lower level mobs

OK, so I got around to analyzing the hits for a proper hit distribution. It was really bugging me because I was using this formula:

[MIN Base]+[DI]*(1 thru 20) = Hit Values

Which is pretty well known, but I think it was missing some tweaks as I was getting a lot of rounding errors based on what I was seeing. I think I have that figured out. Here is the formula that matches exactly (using excel formulas here):

=ROUNDUP([MIN Base]+ ROUND([DI],1)*[1 thru 20],0)

(Note: would need more data to confirm specifics of above, may have been truncating the DI)

For starters, here is the hit distribution for both mage pet and mist panther:

mage_epic_pet_hits(21,24,26,29,31,33,36,38,41,43,4 5,48,50,53,55,57,60,62,65,67)

mist_panther_hits(5,8,11,14,17,20,23,26,29,32,35,3 8,41,44,47,50,53,56,59,62)

While I did not use a formula for the below, here are the bash/kick values (bash/kick combined for epic pet, values seemed equal). Not sure if there are supposed to be a 20 hit distribution or less, needed more data to figure out:

mage_epic_pet_bash_kick(20,21,22,23,27,28,29,30,31 )

mist_panther_kick(50,58)

I found a couple long-ish parses of the mage epic pet from December 2000.

Found the logs. Read it and enjoy as you please. hahahahaha. You'll notice the pet hits the mob one time for 143 at the end of the fight. This is probably a BS considering the mob was most likely running at this point.

Last hit at the end is likely a backstab as the mob was running from low hp.

Hrmmm, seems more likely the case that it's some sort of quirk of that proc the epic has, those "shards of elemental power". You can see that the pet bashes in essentially the same round of combat (backstab shares bash/slam cooldown).

My guess is that on the killing blow the proc killed him or went off on the killing hit, and the number you get is either the proc damage or the melee swiing+ proc damage.

killing blows would sometimes show strange/buggy things, a result of how they coded the order of operations in combat and how they get relayed to the client.
