Being a founding developer for eqemulator I think I have a better grasp of the goal which was allowing you to make the server your own way, what you consider 'real' is inconsequential. Also, you know all that anger can shorten your lifespan.

Believe it or not back in the day it was very common for bulletin board systems (BBS) to do monthly wipes of multi-user dungeons (MUDs) which were the precursor to EverQuest. It isn't as far fetched as you'd think. Keeps things fresh since people crave that early game.
