Fantastic stuff. We've all got them...keep them coming!

As for me, I started up in November 1999, similar story. Saw it in the shop, it looked VERY different from anything else I'd ever played and sure enough it was!

My first character was a high elf wizard on Prexus. Female? Sure, we'll try that. I remember getting a gossamer robe off someone who didn't want theirs anymore - very generous indeed, I looked fantastic going through Greater Faydark. Ohh, and the path from Felwithe to Kelethin was so scary.... wasps buzzing, bats flapping, ORC PAWNS? Didn't like those!! Eventually get to Kelethin thinking I'd travelled for miles, there were druids there giving out magical buffs...projecting green and yellow from their arms, they gave one to me. I thanked them.

Had a go at the bandit camp (3 bandits) with some others, some guy asked me if I had any pictures? I was quite unsettled. Could he have my ICQ number? Fucckk offf! That spelt the end of my first EQ character, never rolled a female toon ever since on any game... too weird! :s

Went on from there as a wood elf bard, spamming my elvish for someone else's gnomish (etc), enjoyed OOT, enjoyed Freeport/EC/WC. Typical levelling from there, all so new to me... and the memories come flooding back on P1999. Great to have it with us! Best of all, the kindness that some people show on EQ is still present.

Hope you're all enjoying it as much as I am [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

GREAT Story. Thanks for sharing. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I started in early 2000 and EQ is still probably the most emersive game experience I've ever had. Me and a few of my best friends were all seriously into it. We'd get together a couple times a week and end up talking EQ the whole time. lol.

I started as a Erudite Wizard named Malaci on the Lanys server. Met a girl Erudite named Aadarri camping Kobolds in Toxxulia Forest one night and she wound up being my ingame GF. lol. She wanted out of there so badly and got us a port to the dessert of Ro. As soon as I appeared there, I died.... Aadarri had to enlist the help of my RL friend who played a higher level Dark Elf Necro to get me back to my corpse.

That friend BTW took alot of screenshots when he adventured his first character from Felwithe to Freeport. I remember him showing them to me and it was like going through someones pictures from a vacation. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

When Aadarri wasn't online, I thought I'd try an easier class so started a Halfling Druid named Rooty. (Toot) [You must be logged in to view images. All three characters were a part of the Dragons Alliance Guild. That bard is the character I recreated here on P99 BTW.

Kithicor at Night.... Just those three words strikes fear into my heart to this very day. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] One could make a whole game of just that. Jesus that place was scary. I always hugged the zone line but you still would wind up in trouble if you didn't keep your eyes open.

Thanks again for that beautifully written remembrance. My favorite music was the Aviak Music in South Karana which I later found out was the Akanon Music. That and I loved the Toxullia music which was also used at the river in West Karana. Such wonderful memories. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I can't recall. I am almost sure it was a paper map. The box I bought included the main, original game along with the first expansion of Kunark. Well, its also been 11 years so who knows. I may have to go through the boxes in the basement and see if I can find my old stuff.

Happy Hunting
The original game had a paper map. I still have mine right here.

I started on day 1 with a dark elf shadowknight on my friend's account. I remember it taking about 2 hours to find my way out of 3rd gate to Nektulos. Over the next week, playing about 2 hours at a pop per day when my friend would allow it, I explored Nektulos, learned to avoid the Leatherfoot Deputies, and made myself a full suit of patchwork armor. Around level 5, my group got bored of killing mummies at the obelisk, so we ventured out into East Commons. We went through the abandoned plague village, and we promptly slaughtered by a griffin. Good times.

I remember installing EQ and it looking like total crap with the low resolution and viewport UI. I had been used to playing Quake and Q2 in fullscreen "high" resolution and the graphics were totally unacceptable to me. Then I went into my rommates room and saw him play EQ with his dual voodoo-2's in full screen at 1024x768 and no damn viewport window. He told me how to fix the UI and eventually gave me his video cards when I got another motherboard (which I fried eventually). Finally the game looked good enough to play!

Figured a different take on the first adventure would be neat.

This reminds me of the time I brought my iksar monk Jeksisian all the way up to Crushbone to level (because CB was my favorite area to grind in ofc). It was really interesting being there and being completely KOS, instead of running to the guards for safety, I would avoid paths like the plague, keep farming orcs and saving up the shoulder pads [You must be logged in to view images.
