I dropped out this year from a private school in norcal. You may want to consider doing the same thing. It makes it easier to focus on EQ full time.

If you want to do engineering, and can actually get accepted to the program you want, UCSD seems like the obvious choice.

I myself see the benefits of both , but I'm pro UC
I wish I went to CSU because they have the "block" system. Block systems let you just focus on one subject at a time, rather than taking 4 different classes they may or may not have anything to do with each other. This is a much better way to do college IMO.

But if you don't care about good grades, block systems I guess could be more "boring." Its pretty hard not to get a C in a class these days unless you don't do your work. But those As are still a minority (except in schools like Harvard and Yale, which are there to preserve privilege for the rich).

All the pot and hypsters are annoying however.

Edit: I don't like being around pot when I'm in school because I like it too much. It will really fuck up your grades and future if you let it.

I also realize that getting a "C" in upper science courses isn't always easy.
