Sorry to burst your bubble, but these servers aren't classic. Its been a while, but I believe in classic they looked more like this:

A single zone can only be processed on one core. Overloading the same zone would lock up one core trying to process it, while the rest of the zones would be spread out among the other 15 cores.

So ideally, a huge event in ec or something would crash ec, but wc would run like a charm?

That was the case in our latest GM Event with 350 people in one zone, but all other zones ran flawlessly.
