People who roll a new character and feel they need to ask for spell money...

I can never decide if they can't EQ (because even Erudites can melee a level 1 mob most of the time) or if they are actually good at EQ (because they know to ask for help and give themselves a leg up over other starting characters).

EQ us actually brutal if you don't have 17+ years of mmo experience. Yeah, you can kill decaying skeletons and large rats, but plague rats and fire beetles will fuck you up, while spiders will gang bang you. And don't forget to press enter before typing when talking to your guildmaster after you've wandered the city for an hour or more looking for them.

i'm wondering if any of these posters have ever helped a truly new player. its a wonder if they can figure out how to auto attack without asking someone.

I had a friend who was fresh to EQ (and mmo's in general) and I taught him what to do through text, probably took him better part of a week to hit level 5 due to him taking the time to figure out the game and enjoy himself - he probably wouldn't have hung around with this being in place (RQ king). There was much messaging back in forth with simple stuff like:
Him - "Why the hell is it so foggy and I cannot see 5m infront of me"
Me - "Go to options blah blah blah"

I forgot that this server doesn't enforce the classic 'reading the kunark manual and playing the tutorial for many hours before actually being able to log into the game' that I went through when I first started EQ.

iirc the current client doesn't even come with the original tutorial in working order.

I always find those level 1 human wizards believable when they come up to me in the tunnel asking for plat (lol)

What percentage of people were actually affected by the serial spammer. I admit I don't spend much time in EC...how persistent could he have been. Was it a bot that automatically created new accounts and wandered around proxy servers logging in and auto spamming. Or was it just one guy who spammed EC for like 3 nights one time....

So just grind out to level 5. Takes like an hour or less.

Maybe a better solution is to just change the error message to let newbies know what the restrictions are and when they will be removed.

"Your message did not go through because it was over 80 characters, this restriction will be removed at level 5. Thank you."
