haha yeah someone on the set was flexing their nerd superpowers. I think that was Arne's shield left from season 1-2, you know the guy with the eye patch that Rollo impaled.

Yep, you see it just as he drops it in his death scene

Hmmm... inaccuracies between the show and the vikings. As far as for the battlefield, the most glaring inaccuracy is their armor, or lack-thereof. In the show, they seem to be more armored in the fashion of the Celts. The Celts were known to run screaming into battle pretty much nekid, and quite successfully as like wild berserkrs.

In the show, they are even less armored than the Romans, which were armored well in the front (girth hoops), used shields, but were nekid at the back. Vikings would wear heavy padding or if affordable (or looted) they would wear chain.
What were you intending to say here? Are the Vikings on the show are more armored than they're supposed to be? Because you go on to compare the guys on the show to the Celts and say that the Celts didn't wear armor. That would make it accurate, no? Are you saying that they're wearing less armor than they should be? Because after that, you said that they wear mostly leather and some chain if they looted it. And that's also how it's depicted in the show.

No, they wore padding, and if available chain. Not thin leather. You know, like thick padding? In the show though, they mostly wear yes leather or nothing at all. This was something mainly the Celts did (not always), according to ancient battle accounts. And the Romans did, but only on the flank side (retreat could get you executed). You see a little armor in the show, but mainly among the leaders/main characters, while the rest mostly nekid (peasant clothing, thin leather, bare skin etc).

Viking armor example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jmwI55c1qXg

Oh did you miss Blood Eagel? That was just cray-cray. That happened after 1.5. It was a little slow through parts of season two, but a lot to do with Ragnar's rise and better establishing of characters. I'd say season 1 was rise to local power. Season 2 towards regional power. Season 3 a failed attempt towards western power. Season 4... vengeance.

Will Ragnar completely lose it this season?

hah yeah actually if you are referring to the blood eagle, right it wasn't Ragnar that did that, it was his son Ivar, when later he went back and conquered and then executed his fathers killer. At least that's by historical accounts - though may not be accurate as some accounts conflict. Not far fetched Ragnar did the same, and then later Ivar thinking it was so cool - yet so gross - did it to his fathers killer/executioner. Authentic, but not so accurate. A jumble of stuff to make a good show.

Quite a lot of western history wound up in it. Later, a descendant of Rollo took Jerusalem in the first crusade. But way beyond the realm of this show of course.

At 25 seconds the shield is facing the camera and rolo hits him. The next cut shot 26 seconds the shield is facing the opposite direction and rolo is still in contact with him.

lol finding these filming mistakes.

C'mon man, it's a magic shield, it's suppose to do that!

Best part of S4E1 was the bedroom scene. Always good when the sex toys are used.

Ok now I have both X-Files and Vikings to catch up on this season.

I'm not well-versed on the military stuff, why did the Romans not use chain? Incredible expense and not much more protection than very good leather? I would assume the Romans fighting in warmer climates would favor chain because it breathes. Leather in harsher climates would waste rations and expend the soldiers faster.

Did anyone favor chain? The Anglos? Seems like not really based on what you have said so far.
