They were banned well before the existence of Shadowhaven to my knowledge, though all I can find now on the Internet are random discussions about how they're OK in EQ now and people occasionally saying "but weren't they banned once?"

I can testify that they were not banned. Only people who submitted the right evidence to people scamming them while running a casino got their accounts banned. But legit ones were never even questioned. Mine was even supported by GM's with global announcements and presence.

When? There was a long period of acceptance followed by a "stop making casinos."

Regardless, I don't care whether they exist here or not.

I ran a casino from 99-2003 consistently, took a few months break, then ran one off and on (like one night a week) until prog servers came out in 2005? Then ran one of prog server for a few months until I had to move and quit EQ all together until 2 years ago. Ran one on Alkabor then as well with my mac.

There was around 2003-2004 a lot of people with rumors of casinos getting banned and stern warnings that I should stop. I think it was a collection of SOE banning scammers and people who had an agenda against casinos spreading rumors =)

I didn't mean to suggest people were actually petitioning about this, I apologise. I was more going for the case of attempting to address the "problem" ourselves, before the flaming torches and pitchforks come out and the cry goes up for GM intervention :-)

Yes, there is a filter for /random.

If it doesn't "add anything to the game", why does there seem to be a market for it? "The game" is more than just the client/server mechanics, it's the social interactions too.

It amuses me to think in a game centred around risk versus reward, that the concept of a casino is thought of as preying on the stupid.

There are no significant social interactions with a level 1 character

Also I guess Tizzle was my prey when she walked away yesterday up 200pp from me. How about Len who walked away with 800pp up on me. Go tell them they are stupid, at least they can pay for their SoW d00d pleez spam.
Yes, we've never seen that one before.
your tall tales of GM endorsement of your spam are even less believable.

It's not the lvl 1 casino runners I have a problem ignoring, its the people that are playing the games, anyone from 1-50 could potentially be ignored for it.

possible loss of groups, or EC sale items, ports, buffs...anything

Sometimes I take these people off of ignore at the end of the day but honestly i just dont remember to

All casino announcement names go on the ignore list right away. Keeps the spam down, and unheard on live I never ran into a situation where I needed to talk with them anyway. That's what ignore is mostly for as I use it.

Then there is always the problem that my ignore list is too full from the days of Global OOC...
