All the newbies I meet are adorable.
Then...they start outleveling me and I feel inadequate. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] But they're still adorable. Most of the people I meet on P99 are friendly and curious, even the veterans. It makes for a lot of nice, fun interactions. Spotting someone in trouble and seeing if I can help is becoming a habit. Oddly enough, I'm starting to do the same thing in real life...

Oh boy did he talk smack to me about how I should come and fight him... until I explained I was actually buying some arrows so I could pincushion him to death. He laughed at me, but for some reason once I started running in circles shooting at him he didn't want to fight anymore and just hid / camped out. heh

Red is so sparsely populated that if you're concerned about low-level griefing just go level in low population zones. Its difficult to find groups but if you have a solo class or a friend you can play with you can move your XP bar and avoid the grief. My Red wiz started in Tox and he got his low levels without any grief at all $ Whats grief? Going to Unrest, SolB, Seb, KC (i hate kc lol) etc or any of the other popular zones and not even being able to get into a group because the server is growing and the majority of the nubs can't move their bar without staying in a highly populated zone. Seb still polices itself pretty nicely even after the SI patch a couple years back (Chef or Disco is usually open because of nub who can't pull casters, Crypt is permacamped cause its joke easy with good loots, NG is easy to solo and easy money, Fungi camp is a sleep-in-shifts-shit-and-piss-in-bedpan situation) There are a ton of other good mid to high level zones but they are low population because they are remote and difficult and it actually takes a little bit of effort to get a crew together to do them. Most players won't want to go because its "too much effort" and too dangerous (dungeons like Najena, Dalnir, etcetc) This trend will become even worse in Velious. The remote dungeons are difficult to reach and difficult to get to the depths and only the most intrepid adventurers will be able to make it deep and stay alive without a mini-raid. Just think about the Hole right now - excellent loot, massive zone that can accommodate probably a dozen full groups lol, yet nobody goes cause its "remote" (yet its way easier to port to Hole than it has to port/hammer then run to Seb) and certainly dangerous. If nobody goes to Hole now, who the hell is going to run all the damn way across a continent THEN go deep into a dungeon where every mob is as tough as a Reet or a Fungus Man? The popular (EZ) zones are going to be packedpackedpacked.

Back on topic. I also love seeing actual newbs around. I have given a few of them some plat/gear but most of them I never see on again. Hopefully they didn't quit and are just finding their class. But this is why I now tend to help out with binds/buffs or random advice or just opinions on where they should level. It is really fun seeing new people on the server. Cheers!

if the Hole had an easy way to exit, that would take care of it. It is a large zone, can be messy, but you're trapped.
Not placing an easy zone exit design was just one obstacle too many. Not saying the Hole is not a good zone, but the RvR gets to pita levels, and I think that is why it has usually been underutilized. Put a better exit system in it, and I bet it would be nearly as popular as Seb. (Seb has a exit trick, but it is a way easier zone to run around in, at least on the first floor)

It's my dire wish that the GMs notice all these new people coming to the server and roll a new server for them(sooner than later) so they can play in peace away from all this guild-wars.
There are over 10 raid-forces all with the best gear hand-picked from the vine with the best stats and max MR. Especially with the way loot is farmed mcdonalds cow-farm style.. and chardok.. /shudder ..It must be repelling to hit about level 40 and learn about the ivory towers and the loot lines and all the mafia wars this server has to offer. I hope the GMs notice the influx of newbies because I see more and more and if they really start flooding the scene then we need to accommodate them [You must be logged in to view images. I disagree, Foggon. Velious is needed much more than a new server. The latter without Velious wouldn't change much i.e. competitive big dogs will roll on the new server, and whilst players will enjoy a pristine almost '99 era, the raid scene will still be beyond them.
Velious will demand a lot of effort and will produce a lot of competition - which should open up some of the pre-Velious raid mobs; although I suspect the big ticket mobs will still be perma farmed. One of the real reason I do not believe the raid scene will change much is because how much commitment, effort, and organisation is needed to raid - let alone raid competitively. EQ raiding is very much different to other MMO raiding: congested, competitive spawns, requiring vast amounts of commitment and dedication to get out of bed to logon (no instances). I'd wager that most players lack the appetite for regular EQ raiding. I'd like to attend some raids in the future, but I cannot raid anywhere near a regular basis: family commitments, time constraints, and unwillingness to get out of bed for the batphone at stupid o'clock in the morning. That's fine. I don't particular want loot - more the experience of a couple of raids (obviously meeting min requirements re: level and resist gear). We'll see. I enjoy and will continue to enjoy EQ playing my own way, and can still co-exist with raiders whilst inhabiting Norrath. New players will always be needed for fresh blood, new perspectives, and to come in for those players who can no longer meet raid commitments and/or retire.
