Necro felt good at about 49-54 pvp wise. Upon reaching 56 you will rip your hair out, if someone ever does venture far enough from the ZL for you to cast a dot they will pell it. & if you happen to get lucky they will zone your YT.

Not everyone on live carried around pumice nor cure pots. Wasn't uncommon for full duration splurt to tick away on noobs... because, well, the average player back then wasn't a 350 pound pasty virgin hiding from real life on a 16 yo video game.

All casters are much harder to get YT with, but dot classes got it a lot harder than nuke classes.

How do casters manage with the 33% hit to their damage along with resists?

Apparently they don't, which is why everyone is Rogue / Monk.

Monk doesn't apply to me in the slightest— why can't I carry shit just because I punch things to death? Rogue seems interesting to me, and was so before I realized how many retards play the class. I always go with the "your class is as good as the player" and "your class isn't bad, just learn to play it a little better," but that doesn't seem to be the case with EQ. I understand that the devs didn't design the game around pvp, nor make an attempt to balance it, but Red is a pk server and has had changes for the sake of pvp. Why not make casters a little more viable here (adding a diminishing return to Resists instead of that ridiculous cap).

It's just a tough class to play, especially at max level when melees get geared up and more people are carrying cure potions. The basic problem is that Necro spells 1) cost a lot of mana, and 2) take too long to kill. This problem is compounded by most Necro players picking Iksars instead of much higher INT Erudites, DEs or Gnomes, resulting in pathetically small mana pools in full resist gear (meaning less mana to spam lifetaps and re-apply peeled DoTs). Also, for a long time on this server melee classes were able to channel their pumice and potion casts, which is completely non-classic. Necros in classic were actually very good at killing pure melee (especially if they had a pet up) because melees couldn't peel off the Necro's DoTs if they were taking damage due to having 0 channeling skill.

The best Necro tactic is ambushing with a DoT or two, hoping they stick then spamming Deflux while shadow stepping around. So you're basically playing just like a Wizard, except gaining DoTs in exchange for weaker lures (lifetaps) and a shorter range Yonder (shadow step). So in that case, why play a Necro who has to stack DoTs that can be dispelled when you could play a Wizard and chain nuke for an unresistable 550? From a pure PvP perspective there isn't really a good reason.

I played both sk and necro from classic thru lucin on live and despite the +\- 8 lvls on vallon zek I never felt gimp. I maxed out at 54 and felt down right powerful with that life tap. For this server even if they zone and no yt dead still = win to me. If they plug well so what.

necros are plenty good in pvp, if ur looking for killshots trucidation is decent id wager a bet on a necro beating any other int caster 1v1 and they have good survivability in mass pvp where a wizard for instance needs heals i can run out and stalking probe + vex (holgresh beads in velious) and get right back in the fight and toss out some annoying dots that if you stock to cure will net you some melee hits

vs melees banshee aura + shm pot is a pretty ruthless dmg shield throw in some hp buffs and deflux spam you'd b surprised how many melees you can get in trouble with that (necros gained more out of the clicky spell refresh than any other caster)-- necros will scale MUCH better than wizards in velious also, i have seen more lately but it seems people get bored of them
