Well, i would like to have ingame maps over having to alt tab evey 2 sec to make sure i am heading the right way.
Do you not own a smart phone? Keep that thing handy and look up maps with it. If you don't have one you're closer to classic times than most! The binder of printed maps is probably your best bet in that case, that's how I did it back in the day too.

https://www.norrathmap.com/

It pulls up a map of the zone youre in and if you have /loc bound to movement keys then it will keep your location plotted on the map. I know most zones well but its helpful in zones like droga etc so i dont get lost

I know all the zones by heart, but I do miss the built in map. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

There used to be maps on here a couple of years ago just like there was a Compass, didn't have to sit to camp, could see what level mobs were, like DB, Red etc. when you targeted them, heck there were even Target Rings on here for a bit, etc., etc. All got nerfed, not "Classic" lol. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] Tons more stuff that has been nerfed.

So don't Ever hold your breath of those things coming back. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Back in the day when the maps were first being published I printed them all out and put them in plastic sleeves in a ring binder which I still have and use. Although, now I do find that I use the second monitor for the Wiki maps more and more.

I found its funny that original EQ didn't had maps but it had /loc which gave you PRECISE geo coordinates.
So apparently you not suppose to know which part of Karana you in even approximately in (south, west, north), but you can instantly obtain your perfect Geo-location by some sort of magical satellite...

Honestly, I prefer Baldurs Gate/ WoW style map - you can see where approximately you are (with unexplored locations greyed out) (without any map ad dons installed obviously)

OMHO: Perfectly immersive in game map:

The people who invented the first space ships were brilliant. That doesn't mean anybody should actually want to use them 200 years later. Ideas are limited by means of execution. Everquest has amazing ideas that need to be completely reworked in their execution, in order for classic Everquest as it was envisioned to actually exist and continue to be relevant as things have evolved.

Yeah everyone in EQ has a GPS implant that allows them to see their coordinates but can't figure out how to draw a map as they travel lol.

I always found to lack of maps to be something that takes away from the immersion. I say put the map window back in but find some way to force us to use to to create our own maps. Both more immersive and more realistic.

Big thing in this game, the hell with maps! Learn how to do loc. It will save your ass a LOT more than knowing maps.

VERY few people are worth a crap knowing how loc really works.

People are not going to tell you in a zone about maps, they are going to give you a loc. Learn how to do it. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
